What size boxing gloves should I order?
"What size boxing gloves do I need?" That's often the first question someone new to boxing asks. Men's boxing gloves are usually larger than women's. This is because men generally have larger hands. However, this isn't necessarily the case. Your boxing glove size depends on your hand size. You can often get a good idea of your glove size based on your body weight. Curious about what size boxing gloves you should order? At Borimo.se, we're happy to provide you with more information!
What is Oz?
Your boxing glove size is indicated in oz. But what is oz? It's an abbreviation for ounces. An ounce is a British-American unit of measure. One ounce is approximately 28.35 grams. The heavier the glove, the larger it is. The weight (or size) of a (kick)boxing glove will usually be between 4 and 20 oz. The ounce size usually increases in 2-ounce increments. So, you have gloves of 4, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 oz.
The number of ounces indicates the weight of the boxing glove, but also its internal size. If you have a larger hand circumference, you'll wear larger and heavier gloves. However, the fit can vary slightly between brands. Not sure which size boxing gloves you need from a specific brand? Our fight shop's customer service team is happy to help you choose the right size!
Your boxing glove size based on your weight
The fit of boxing gloves can vary slightly between brands. However, in most cases, you can estimate the size based on your body weight. For someone weighing between 85 and 92 kg, we generally recommend 16 oz boxing gloves. Want to estimate the size gloves you need based on your body weight? Use the table below.

Your boxing glove size based on hand size
If you're a normal weight for your height, you can often easily estimate which boxing gloves you need based on your weight. However, weight doesn't always tell you anything about your hand size. It's more reliable to determine your boxing glove size based on your hand circumference. How do you do that? We're happy to explain!
How to measure your hand size
To measure your hand circumference, you'll first need a measuring tape. Then, use it to measure the width of your palm. The tape should extend below your knuckles, excluding your thumb. If you don't have a measuring tape, you can also use a piece of string and a ruler.

What size boxing gloves for men?
Adult men weighing under 70 kg (155 lbs) can often opt for 12 oz gloves. However, the 14 oz glove is the most popular. Many men weigh between 70 and 85 kg (155 and 185 lbs). For this reason, a large group of men need this type of glove. Are you tall and weigh more than 85 kg (185 lbs)? Then the 16 oz glove will suffice in most cases.
Keep in mind that not everyone's body has the same proportions. Everyone is a little different! As you can see above, the best way to determine your size is by measuring your hand size. This way, you can be sure your gloves aren't too big or too small.
What size boxing gloves for women?
Women, girls, and even children can generally get by with gloves weighing between 8 oz and 14 oz. Women generally have smaller hands than men. However, it's still best to measure your hand circumference to determine which gloves you need.
What size boxing gloves for children?
For the youngest (kick)boxers, children between 5 and 10 years old, we generally recommend boxing gloves weighing 4 to 8 oz. Children aged 10 to 16 often need boxing gloves weighing 8 to 14 oz. Curious about what size gloves your child needs? You can always ask your trainer or our fight shop's customer service!
Is there much difference in size between boxing glove brands?
Every boxing glove factory has different shapes, size charts and models.
So, it's certainly possible that a 14 oz Essimo glove has a different fit than, for example, a boxing glove from Venum, King, Twins, or Booster. If you're unsure how a particular brand of gloves fits, we can always help free of charge. Our customer service team, comprised of experienced fighters, is available around the clock to answer your questions.
